Campaign Finance:
People ask me: “Do you think it is a conflict of interest to accept campaign
contributions?” This is an issue that judicial candidates who are appointed do not have to address but judicial candidates who run for office do. I believe that it is not a conflict of interest, however, my campaign has not accepted any contributions. I have loaned
my campaign money. When this campaign is over, if I am elected, no one can say that I decided a case in favor of someone, against another, because either they or their attorney contributed money to my campaign.
Women Judges:
You don’t become a judge in a nine to twelve month campaign. I believe that it takes a lifetime of education and experience to become a judge. I have the education and experience to be an excellent judge. I have devoted many years of my life to public service.
I have 11 years of courtroom experience. I am running for judge because I love working in Palm Beach County Court and I believe we need more women judges. There are 54 judges in Palm Beach County: 35 men (65%) and 19 women (35%). I think that the majority of men and women would agree with me that women also make excellent judges.
Court Cases:
People have expressed to me their frustration that it takes too long for cases to go through the court system. I believe that some cases in court actually move too quickly while others do move too slowly. I think all judges in Palm Beach County are diligently trying to move their caseloads along. Budget cuts do have an impact on the court system and the administration of justice. If I am elected judge I will also do my best to keep up with the volume of work. I will strive to have the integrity to follow the law, to be fair and impartial and to respect everyone who appears before me.
