Dear
Voter,
You may remember when I ran for Palm Beach County Court Judge Group 2
in 2006 and nearly won. I received 49.47% of the vote. The race was decided the day after the election with the absentee ballots. This time
I am a candidate for Palm Beach County Court Judge Group 7 to replace
retiring Judge Paul Moyle.
County court judges preside over misdemeanor
cases in criminal court and civil cases in civil court. The maximum sentence in county criminal court is one year in the county jail. County civil court cases are cases in which the amount in controversy
does not exceed $15,000.00 and includes traffic infractions, small claims and most landlord tenant disputes.
I received my Bachelor's of Arts Degree in Sociology from Regis
College in Weston, Massachusetts at age 21, my Master's Degree in Public Administration from Harvard University at age 38 and my Law
Degree from Nova Southeastern University at age 48. I became a lawyer at the age
of 49. Now at 60, I am a candidate for Judge. I am a member of the Florida Bar and the Palm Beach County Bar Association.
I have been an Assistant Public Defender for 11 years. I have
represented thousands of clients in county and circuit court. I have
handled both jury and non jury trials. I currently represent juveniles
charged with delinquent acts. Generally my clients range in age from 12
to 19. Some are children who have been abused, abandoned and/or
neglected. They are in the custody of the Department of Children and
Families and may be in foster care or in relative care.
I am the daughter of a United States Marine and a former Girl Scout.
I always strive to do my best.
Races for Judge in Florida are non-partisan. I would appreciate your
vote.
Sincerely,
Jane F. Sullivan
